It’s never been a better time to make a positive impact, and while remaining optimistic during a global pandemic can be difficult, it’s not without benefit.

When we are happy, our productivity goes up, our relationships improve, and some studies even suggest that our bodies become healthier. So what can we do, in the midst of a pandemic, to keep the faith and stay positive?

At ONEC, we’d like to think a good deed or two is a great place to start.

Over the month of September, we had the pleasure of working with several organizations who certainly know the value of a good deed.

First, volunteers from our Engineering teams got down and dirty with other participating firms and United Way at the 2020 Engineering Challenge Engineering Day of Caring. A yearly event, the Engineering Day of Caring brings together the engineering community to improve the facilities of community outreach services and organizations. This year, the project was the renovation of the outdoor space at the MHA Northern Arms Housing unit in the Queen Mary Park neighbourhood of Edmonton, Alberta. Tenants can now use the refurbished area to socialize and enjoy the outdoors. We are so grateful to have been a part of the team for the fourth consecutive year and look forward to next year’s Engineering Day of Caring.

Next, a member of our Business Development team headed to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo for the 2020 Oil Sands Charity Golf Classic – a golf tournament in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank. The tournament is typically hosted as part of the Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference, but organizers were committed to proceeding with a safe and COVID-19 compliant tournament, despite the fact that the conference was rescheduled to 2021 due to the pandemic. The event was a huge success, raising over $34,000 for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank. We would like to thank the event organizers and partners for putting on a fantastic tournament and congratulate them on such a fantastic outcome.

Finally, our Construction team had the pleasure of participating in a valued client’s fundraising event in support of 2020 Hockey Helps the Homeless Edmonton.
