ONEC ADVANTAGE — SPRING EDITION

Welcome to the first edition of ONEC Advantage. Each quarter, we’ll be bringing you the latest news from ONEC — everything from project updates, to new hires, to recent achievements. We hope this makes it easier to better understand our work and how we can help you complete your projects from start to finish.

LARGEST PROJECT TO DATE NOW COMPLETE

Last month, we successfully completed work on our most extensive job to date — the City of Edmonton’s waste management facility, valued at $13.2 million.

The City sought to expand its biosolids handling in order to truck the solids for sale as fertilizer, so ONEC was brought on board to deliver complete end-to-end services — including design, construction management, construction trades and commissioning. This project had a large scope of work that involved, among other things, new centrifuge, new building, storage silos , new polymer systems and new biosolids pumps/piping.

Something unique to this project was its contracting strategy. ONEC provided engineering and construction management at a fixed price, while subcontracted trades were provided at a target price that had to be maintained within the City budget. As a public project, keeping within budget was hugely important, so many measures were put in place to optimize the design and efficiently manage contractors in order to keep costs as low as possible.

We’re proud to have completed a project of this size on time and on budget, and to have the facility be operational in less than one year from the initial design.

Special recognition goes to each of our project leads: Richard Holley (project manager), Ian Park (structural), Rob Mrzljak (mechanical), Kyle Hawkings (electrical), and Justin Stevens (construction management).

NEW BRAND IS ROLLED OUT

In January, we announced that ONEC Group — consisting of Oncore Services and ECO-Technica — would unite under one name to become ONEC. Our new, unified name represents the truly integrated nature of our engineering and construction services, and our updated marketing materials speak more to our innovative, forward-looking approach. In case you missed it, here is some more information about our new brand. You can also check out our new brochure HERE.

Thank you to all our clients who have shared such positive feedback about our rebrand. We’re happy to know that it is being so well received.

INTRODUCING ONEC’S 5% ADVANTAGE

At ONEC, we’re committed to helping you achieve cost certainty on your projects. And one of the ways we do this is through our fixed price design and build model—otherwise known as the 5% Advantage. This model allows us to provide a fixed price for the remainder of any project with as little as 5% of the total project cost committed. That means that once we have completed the preliminary scoping and estimating phases, you will be able to revisit the scope, budget, or even cancel the project altogether with no more than 5% invested — helping you to plan effectively while also reducing risk.

To find out more, contact our Business Development team Murray Berlin, (Edmonton Sales) or Robert Wanjoe(Calgary Sales).

RECENT ADDITIONS TO THE TEAM

We’re pleased to welcome two new members to our ever-expanding team.

Robert Wanjoe joins ONEC’s Business Development team, focusing primarily on the Calgary market. Robert will be ONEC’s main contact for Calgary head offices and Southern Alberta projects.

Prahlad Harsha has come on board as a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer. Harsha has a wealth of engineering, procurement and construction experience and is a welcome addition to Ian Park’s growing team.
