Welcome to our latest edition of the ONEC Advantage Blog, a Project Success Story on our team’s execution of the design and construction management of a process tower elevator.

ONEC was contracted to prepare the design and complete the construction for the installation of a new elevator at the client’s facility to facilitate the transport of materials and personnel between the various floors. The elevator had to meet various criteria related to capacity and access.

ONEC’s scope of supply included:

  • The engineering and design (in accordance with the Alberta Building Code).
  • An architectural code review.
  • Acquiring all permits (development, building, electrical, etc.).
  • Modifying the width of a bridge to accommodate elevator shaft.
  • Relocating man-doors at each end of the bridge.
  • Modifying existing rooms at each floor to allow space for new elevator doors.
  • Excavating and installing shaft and elevator foundation.
  • Removing the wall in the link building at the ground floor.
  • Constructing a new floor.
  • Constructing a new wall beneath an existing bridge.
  • Installing a new masonry elevator shaft.
  • Procuring and installing a new rated elevator.
  • Constructing the wall openings at each of the floors to access the elevator.
  • Constructing a new elevator vestibule at roof level.
  • Supplying 480V power feed to new elevator.
  • Providing new lighting and receptacles at new door openings.
  • Constructing a steel sub floor on the roof over existing curbs and piping.
  • Installing a new roof on elevator shaft after elevator was installed.
  • Installing a new elevator mechanical room on the roof.
  • Commissioning and testing of the new elevator.
